Objective

To determine the ideal air conditioning solution for the apartment renovation project. The client’s primary goal was to incorporate an efficient and aesthetically pleasing air conditioning solution for the living room space and two bedrooms. The challenges were presented due to the absence of a ceiling void and limited space for mechanical equipment on the roof.

Solution

The Daikin VRV IV S system was selected to provide comprehensive cooling and heating solutions. The system included a 16kW heat pump condenser unit (Model RXYMQ6BVM) with horizontal discharge, two sets of pipes with multiple refnets, and four floor-standing concealed units (Model FXNQ-A2VEB) ingeniously integrated within GIB walls. Each zone was equipped with a wall mounted BRC1E63 “Nav Ease” controller to manage the system effectively.

The Project

Daikin installer, Airtech, was approached by the project’s Architect to provide a discreet air conditioning solution for the luxury apartment refurbishment.

The RXYMQ6BVM outdoor unit, with its compact footprint of 0.3m2, was hoisted to the roof, fitting perfectly within the limited available space.

The FXNQ-A2VEB indoor units which are 200mm in depth and 620mm in height, served as key components for concealed integration. With their slim profile, it allowed for concealment behind the GIB walls. A particularly clever manoeuvre involved situating the bedroom unit discreetly behind a wardrobe, leaving only the supply and return air grilles visible.

This high precision installation was done in close collaboration with the builder. The choice of indoor units extended beyond aesthetics. The FXNQ-A2VEB indoor units allowed for external static pressure up to 59Pa*.

To ensure efficient airflow distribution throughout the living spaces, a required external static pressure was set on the controllers during the systems commissioning. Moreover, their noise levels remained low, aligning perfectly with the project’s emphasis on tranquility. To ensure even quieter operation, Airtech installed supply ducting with a 25mm internal insulation.

BRC1E63 ‘Nav Ease’ wall mounted controllers were chosen to be installed in each zone for convenience and comfort.

Conclusion

Airtech’s partnership with Daikin manifested in a masterfully tailored solution for the apartment refurbishment. The VRV indoor FXNQ-A2VEB wall-concealed floor standing units have proved itself as a great option for retrofit or luxury projects with no ceiling void and high aesthetic requirements.
