Daikin NZ opening of new cutting-edge Christchurch warehouse and distribution centre

Leading heat pump company Daikin New Zealand is nearing the completion of its second purpose-built facility in New Zealand with its new Daikin Park Christchurch facility set to meet further South Island customer demand.

Daikin Park Christchurch will consolidate two of the company’s Christchurch locations on a 7,870 square metre site in Hornby, making it the largest dedicated Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) warehouse in the South Island.

This new development is due for completion in October and is targeting a 5 Green Star rating and a 5-star NABERS rating to support Daikin Global’s aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. It also makes Daikin the first international company in the Canterbury region to follow its global sustainability charter to have all its facilities around the world meet an accredited sustainability rating.

Daikin Managing Director, Ryuta Hayashibara, said that the Daikin Park Christchurch vision is to establish state-of-the-art facilities that continue the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in New Zealand. It also reinforces our position as the market leader in New Zealand by supporting faster response times and redefining customer experience.

This expansion along with the recently opened Daikin Park Auckland facility in August last year will enable us to be more agile and improve our service and speed to existing customers while continuing to drive customer growth and focusing on technology and product innovation to improve indoor air quality and ensure all Kiwi homes are warm, dry, and sufficiently heated.

Daikin Supply Chain Manager, Andy Heydon, said to streamline operations, the new site has three recessed docks, a capacity of 6,280 pallet spaces, and capacity to distribute 450,000 cubic metres of freight per year.

We are taking control of our own supply chain with our Daikin Parks being a significant investment in the company’s future,” he said.

The Daikin Park Christchurch development has been established in conjunction with Carbon Property, private property fund Epoch Property and global property company Savills.

The new building includes environmentally friendly elements such as electric vehicle charging stations, a 50kw solar system, and the latest HVAC and Building Management System technology.

Beyond its warehousing capability, the facility houses Daikin's South Island sales team, Trade Centre, and showroom. The location also features a Training Academy offering courses to develop, upskill and increase the knowledge of technicians and Daikin’s specialist dealers.

Daikin has commenced a recruitment drive for Warehousing roles beginning with the Christchurch Warehouse Manager position via the Daikin New Zealand Careers website and LinkedIn.
